California Academy of the Sciences Unveils New Building

The most innovative feat of green architecture ever accomplished will soon be open to the world. Designed by architect Renzo Piano uses state of the art technology and enviro-engineering of sustainable structures that are as beautiful to the eye as they are to Mother Earth. A bizarre and almost alien-looking structure, the new building is composed of a mixture of the original structure and completely recycled material, including the blue-jean insulation. A roof looking more at home in Teletubbie-land is actually a ‘living roof’ composed of rich grass covering 60,000 photovoltaic cells along the entire perimeter.A monument to human endeavor and an awe-inspiring achievement of science, the new CAS building will open in just a few months on September 27, 2008.Please visit the official website for more information.
