A view of the Pacific Ocean and smell of the salt air is an ideal way to start your day on the Half Moon Bay Coastside, but once you’ve had that first cup of coffee and walk on the beach, you may have a hunger for something more. Breakfast is essential for fueling your day, whether you’re planning an active excursion or a more leisurely pursuit, and this region is filled with great breakfast options with a variety of tastes for everyone. Whether your taste buds yearn for the sweet or the savory, you’re an early or late bird, or desire a harbor or neighborhood feel, there’s a breakfast spot here for you.

Get a feel for life in Pillar Point Harbor with breakfast at Ketch Joanne Restaurant & Harbor Bar. With perhaps the most extensive breakfast menu on the Coastside, the options here range from seafood omelets (including shrimp and crab) to traditional omelets, eggs Benedict to pancakes and waffles (with blueberries, bananas, or strawberries), huevos rancheros to steak and eggs, and plenty more. Mondays through Thursdays, breakfast is served all day, which appeals to major breakfast fans, late sleepers, and those visiting from a different time zone. Watch fishermen come and go, and enjoy the harbor views from inside this boat-themed restaurant.

French Toast Breakfast

Farther down the coast, Half Moon Bay Joe’s serves up daily breakfast until 3 p.m. The comfortable, diner-style setting offers up dishes from Joe’s Special Scramble (with ground chuck, spinach, onions, and eggs) to an Italian Benedict and thick French toast. The menu rounds out with huge four-egg omelets, other egg dishes, pancakes, and Belgian waffles.

For a neighborhood feel, roll on in to The Press in El Granada. All-day breakfast choices include omelets, scrambles (eggs or tofu), breakfast burritos and wraps, huevos rancheros, pancakes, waffles, French toast and bagel dishes. When the weather’s good, the patio tables are hard to beat for the best perch from which to relax and enjoy neighborhood views and people watching.

A very different kind of action is the focus for those who enjoy the 3-Zero Café for breakfast. At the Half Moon Bay Airport, the café serves as the best vantage point for small-craft action to and from the airport, either bringing back childhood memories of the allure of air travel, or inspiring new obsessions. The menu here lists a wide variety of omelets, frittatas, egg dishes, tamales, burritos, oatmeal, waffles, and pancakes. Even if you aren’t inspired to get your pilot’s license at the end of your hearty meal, you’ve at least started the day off well.

Omelet

See if you can walk past the indulgent cakes and cookies at Moonside Bakery & Café to order from the breakfast menu. You certainly can choose a freshly made pastry here, but you can also consider dishes such as breakfast burritos, breakfast pizza, buttermilk pancakes, brioche French toast, omelets, and scrambles. Better yet, get both a savory and sweet dish. Breakfast is the most important meal of the day, after all.
