VIA UNO Cucina Italiana & Bar was voted 2016 ‘Best Italian’ in the San Francisco Bay Area by the Bay Area A-List.  VIA UNO ranked first in the Italian category out of 88 nominees.  In the total contest there were more than 13,000 voters and 121 winners.

About Via Uno

VIA UNO is located along Highway 1 at 2810 Cabrillo Highway and specializes in authentic flavors featuring the regional specialties of Southern Italy using local, fresh ingredients from farms along the coast and throughout the Bay Area.  VIA UNO supports the slow-food movement and emphasizes the Italian way of eating.

Owners Massimo Sarubbi and Francesco D’Agostino, hailing from Southern Italy’s region of Calabria, are thrilled about the news.  “We are very proud and honored.  People understand that we are bringing the true tastes of Italy with the freshest food, Italian staff, and our warm atmosphere and hospitality.  They feel it when they are here and that is our goal” said Sarubbi.

VIA UNO boasts the only wood-fired brick pizza oven along the coast.  The 6,000-pound Marra Forni oven was made by artisans in Naples, Italy, and produces light, airy, gently charred pies at 800 degrees in only 90 seconds.  The menu has soup, appetizers, salads, pastas, entrees, size orders, and pizza. The most popular dishes are the Margarita pizza, Mediterranean Sea bass with fennel puree, Schiaffittuni Aspromonte with Italian sausage, peas, mushrooms, red bell pepper, and tomato cream sauce, and their housemade Gnocchi with gorgonzola and black truffle sauce.  The old-world heavy wine list features varietals imported from Calabria including a special dry rose and reds from the Calabrian Gagliopo grape.

Their modern yet rustic décor with natural stone, marble, and wood will make you feel like you’re in the Mediterranean.  The casually elegant restaurant seats 120 and boasts an open kitchen, full bar, private wine room, and dog-friendly heated outdoor patio seating.

The news comes just before VIA UNO celebrates its 2nd Anniversary on the evening of Wednesday, March 16th with live music by jazz singer Sandra Aran from 6:30 – 9:30pm.  “Now we are going to have a double celebration on our second birthday” said co-owner Francesco D’Agostino gleefully.  “We are looking forward to celebrating with our customers.  Our success is because of them.” he added.

In its first year in business, VIA UNO was named one of Sunset Magazine’s Favorite New Restaurants of 2014 and voted “Best New Restaurant” in Half Moon Bay by the locals.  They were awarded the Italian Academy of Cuisine’s symbol of authenticity, whose mission is to safeguard traditional Italian cuisine and improve and promote it in Italy and abroad.
