The Half Moon Bay Coastside Chamber of Commerce and Visitors’ Bureau hosts the Farm Day Luncheon annually in late March or early April.
The annual tradition was started over 40 years ago by the late coastside farmer, Mel Mello, and has become one of the most favored events of the year for both business and political leaders. The luncheon is prepared by local residents, most of which are or have been involved with the farming community or local businesses.
The event presentation includes three prestigious awards honoring various individuals for their contributions to their industry and community:
- Farmer of the Year: Honoree must be in farming, employing sound business practices, actively involved in their community and the continuation of this industry by nurturing and educating future innovators of this or similar vocations.
- Dolores Mullin Like a Rock Award: Named after the late Dolores Mullin. Awarded to a member of the community who has shown exemplary dedication, commitment and volunteerism throughout the years benefiting the Coastside and its people.
- Glenn Ashcraft Chamber Community Service Award: Named after the late Glenn Ashcraft. Awarded to a Coastsider who has continually supported Coastside causes and given of his/herself time and time again.
The event program also includes a presentation by a special guest speaker.
All members of the community at large are invited to join in honoring these important Coastsiders. Tickets are generally $30 in advance, or $35 at the door.
