Half Moon Bay, a magnificent road trip destination!

The great American road trip may be a myth to some, but to others it is a wonderful reality. Taking to the open road and following where the road takes you across this great country of ours is an adventure like no other. But did you ever think of Half Moon Bay as the end point? No? With beautiful beaches, a vibrant art scene and restaurants aplenty, there are few destinations like it. In the latest issue of Sactown Magazine, the rich qualities of Half Moon Bay are expounded upon with zeal.

There’s no better way to enjoy the sights of Half Moon Bay than by foot, so park in the lot at Polar Beach (at the end of Polar Street) and journey south along the ocean on the Coastal Trail (californiacoastaltrail.info) as it follows the shoreline for several miles. You’ll enjoy stunning views as you walk above the beach and past wind-whipped cypress trees. For a different perspective, drive about five miles south past the Highway 1-Highway 92 intersection to reach the southern trailhead for the 3.6 mile Cowell-Pursima Trail (650-854-7696, oceanspacetrust.org/activities; northern stretch closed weekdays). Half Moon Bay’s Main Street is an appealing combination of 19th century buildings and contemporary businesses. Light and Art (330 Main St., 650-726-3080, lightandart.com) carries co-owner Fritz Neidhardt’s sconces and floor lamps that incorporate brilliantly hued blown glass.
