Half Moon Bay, home to the movies

Half Moon Bay, California is famous for its local arts scene, landmark mouth-watering restaurants, and five-star hotels but more recently it has earned a place as a key filming location. This autumn, several movies will be released, all shot in the bay area.

The bay area is so rich with spellbinding beauty and character that it should come as no surprise that so many movie makers have decided it isn’t just a great vacation spot but also a beautiful area to make a film.

Of course readers of this blog will recall that the docu-drama ‘Chasing Mavericks’ will be released in October. The movie was filmed on location in Half Moon Bay. Chronicling the real-life story of surf legend Jay Moriarty, Telling the true story of Moriarty’s surfing career and the adoration and respect held worldwide for the Maverick surf break, ‘Chasing Mavericks’ has been attracting local and national attention and is sure to deliver an emotional impact.

Nearby San Francisco is home to a number of high profile motion pictures from Lana Wachowski’s one hundred million dollar epic based on David Mitchell’s novel ‘Cloud Atlas’ to the suspenseful thriller ‘Arbitrage’ starring award-winning actor Richard Gere, Tim Roth and Susan Sarandon. Additionally, ‘There Will be Blood’ director Paul Thomas Anderson filmed his latest project ‘The Master’ featuring Philip Seymour Hoffman on the wet coast. The distinctive director Terrence Malick produced his latest project, ‘To the Wonder’ in which Javier Bardem, Ben Affleck and Rachel Weiss co-star in the San Francisco area.

When you are watching the silver screen this season, remember that while these blockbusters are very diverse, they have one thing in common, the celebrated locale of the bay area.
