It became a beloved local institution under the watchful eyes of their son Steve Evan and his wife Ilva, particularly renowned for its pies.
After a period of closure and change in ownership, the torch has been passed to Betsy del Fierro, a long-time local and an admirer of the diner’s community spirit. Del Fierro, who has been successfully running It’s Italia since 1997, took over Johnny’s with a vision of honoring its legacy while infusing it with a modern touch. The challenge of managing two establishments has been offset by the close proximity of the eateries on Main Street and the shared resources they offer.
Del Fierro’s family plays a pivotal role in the restaurant’s operations, with her husband and daughters actively involved, ensuring the legacy of family-run businesses continues. The menu at Johnny’s is a thoughtful blend of new creations and classic dishes from the original diner, including lemon ricotta pancakes and chilaquiles for breakfast, and a variety of comforting lunch options.
