The excitement of surfing… caught on film

If there is one thing that the west coast is hailed for, it is the massive waves and incredible surfing opportunities that they provide. While not all of us are born with the nerves of steel necessary to brave these cresting mountains of water, we can certainly appreciate them from a distance. This month, a wonderful exhibit of photographs celebrating the accomplishments of the surfers of the Mavericks Surf Contest will give the many who have never taken that dive into the ocean with only a slim piece of wood a chance to see it up close.

The exhibit attempts to transport the viewer into the very mind scape of the surfers, with wild colors and surfboards adorning the walls for the occasion.’We want to inform people what it is like,’ said surfer and photographer Doug Acton, who helped hang the show. ‘This is one of the biggest waves on the face of the planet.’’We want to celebrate Mavericks,’ said CAL member and show planner Ed Grant. ‘I think we’re really fortunate and blessed to have one of the wonders of the world as part of our neighborhood. It’s very majestic, powerful, beautiful, forceful and the photographs share that with viewers.’Please visit the official site for more information.
