M Stark Gallery presents Whitney Alyssa Parker

Loading...

Once a wedding gown designer in New York City, Whitney Alyssa Parker makes art with her signature sewing machine stitches that is deeply immersive, inspired by the landscape of California.
Parker’s layered, textural work is made with torn hand-painted paper, appliqué of gold and silver leaf, and hand-knotted stitches. Her sophisticated, subdued color palette is activated by the motion of the machine stitch lines. Her process includes video documentation of the making of her work, which adds a quality of intimacy.
Parker received her B.F.A. in Fashion Design from Savannah College of Art and Design. She was selected for the 2022–2023 Chan Zuckerberg Initiative Community Space exhibition by juror Heather Marx. She lives and works in Redwood City.
