The rooms are small and somewhat dated, and don’t have air conditioning. Not necessarily a huge deal in cool and foggy Half Moon Bay, but the rooms are stuffy with the windows closed so the ceiling fans and screens are a must. That’s where we ran into trouble. Our fan was unbalanced and very noisy and there was no one on site to fix it when we checked in around 8pm. We moved to a different room, but its sliding door had no screen, so keeping the room ventilated was not possible. So we ended up moving back to our original room with a box fan. It took a couple of days to finally talk to a manager, and while that interaction could have gone better, she did comp us one night on one of the two rooms we’d booked. The pool area is nice, but only half the jets worked on the hot tub. Breakfast, clearly inspired by chain hotel offerings, was a solid step above with ceramic tableware and metal utensils. The attendants running the breakfast kept it well stocked. The space is small, so it’s possible you might not find an indoor table if they’re busy. Overall, a mixed experience, and the next time we’re in the area to visit family, we’ll seek lodging elsewhere.
