San Benito House

We absolutely loved our stay at the San Benito house earlier this spring. The room was so thoughtfully designed. The location was great and the whole experience was just perfect. Having dinner downstairs, roaming the garden, and then walking upstairs to bed. Bed was such a nice treat, it really felt like we had gone back in time 100 years, in the best of ways possible.

I booked on a whim without realizing San Benito House had an incredible restaurant, deli, and bar attached—and what a pleasant surprise that turned out to be. From the moment I walked in, I knew this would be my home away from home. I will be coming back, and next time I’m bringing friends. I love that the hotel embraces a more sustainable, modern approach with keyless check-in and no traditional bell desk, so I could come and go on my own schedule. (Just a heads-up: there are stairs and no elevator.) Every detail of my stay felt thoughtful. The hotel has been beautifully renovated, so everything felt fresh, clean, and pristine. My room was peaceful and incredibly quiet at night, making it easy to unwind and get an amazing night’s sleep in the comfortable bed with soft, luxurious sheets. I especially appreciated all the little touches: a mini fridge stocked with cold bottled water for late-night snacks, plush slippers, a luxe loofah, and even earplugs in case you’re traveling with someone who snores. The shower had excellent water pressure with plenty of hot water, and as a content creator, I have to mention how photogenic the bathroom was—it was gorgeous! It’s those unexpected details that elevate the entire experience. The in-room coffee was the perfect way to start the morning. From my room, I watched fresh bread being delivered to the deli, so I had to wander downstairs and pick up a loaf to bring home to my family. While I was there, I enjoyed one of the freshest breakfast sandwiches, and to make the morning even better, there was a live musician performing outside. It created such a warm, welcoming atmosphere. San Benito House perfectly blends comfort, character, and hospitality. Whether you’re planning a weekend getaway, attending an event, or simply passing through Half Moon Bay, this place is a true hidden gem. I left already looking forward to my next visit.

Our stay was wonderful. Everything is newly renovated and we enjoyed how clean and comfortable our room was. We especially appreciated the privacy, the beautiful bathroom, the split acs, the comfortable bed and sitting area and the window screens! We were fighting jet lag and fell asleep very early each night, but had absolutely no issues with noise from the street or the patio below. Location is perfect. A few things would have made our stay even better: - slightly better communication on check-in time/procedure. Upon booking I received a confirmation in the form of a receipt and didn’t get any info on check-in until I called to ask on the day of our reservation. Ultimately it didn’t matter, but it would have been appreciated. - a box of tissues in the room. Allergy season is upon us. - a trash bin for recyclables. Self explanatory. - more than two bath towels when the reservation is for two adults. Many people with long hair use a separate towel for their hair. Providing the bare minimum towels feels slightly stingy. - one size up in duvet. Current duvet is a bit narrow for two humans to sleep comfortably covered. The bed (and bedding) is wonderful, but a wider duvet would match the feeling you’re curating. Again, none of these things mattered enough to impact our stay, but could be considered in future.
