Pillar Point Harbor – Half Moon Bay Marina
Pillar Point Harbor at the Half Moon Bay marina is a working fishing harbor and the gateway to the National Marine Sanctuary.
- Interact with fisherman and learn how they work sustainably as they weave their crab traps and repair their nets and gear.
- Ask about Pillar Point Harbor’s award winning recycling program for fishing line and byproducts. Watch them unload their daily catch of squid, crabs, salmon, rockfish, albacore tuna, sand dabs or halibut.
- Access the informational kiosk at the Harbor Master’s office and buy fish straight off the boat. Afternoons and weekends are best for this educational journey along the docks of our harbor.
- If you are visiting Half Moon Bay with an RV you can stay close by at the Pillar Point RV Park!
There are plenty of things to keep you entertained at Pillar Point Harbor, this Half Moon Bay marina offers everything from lodging to water sports, all in one location.
The Harbor and the Pillar Point Marsh teems with wildlife & birds: view pelicans, sea gulls, shorebirds like Dunlin, Common Loon, Great Egret, Surf Scoter, Semi-palmated Plover, Black bellied Plover, Willet, Whimbrel, Long-billed Curlew, Black Turnstone, & Western Sandpiper.
The area is a mecca for fine dining. Seafood is of course is one excellent choice, but there is also Italian, Spanish Tapa, a popular distillery, and the opportunity to purchase your own fish or crab to take home.
There are many fishing opportunities. You can fish or crab off two piers, charter a fishing boat to fish in the open sea, or throw a line from the beach.
Bring your own kayaks & paddleboards or rent them from several locations at Pillar Point Harbor. Paddleboarding or kayaking in the protected Harbor allows for viewing wildlife and enjoying the quiet. Or you can launch out into the open sea from Pillar Point or surf the waves.
There are lots of different accommodations at or near the Harbor. There hotels such as Oceano Hotel & Spa & the Beach house. The Harbor View Inn & the Inn at Mavericks are more intimate locations. You can also stay at the Pillar Point RV Park
The Harbor area is a popular area for watching whales. The last few years have offered some of the best whale watching from the beach, the bluff tops and from the boats offering tours.
