A hand adorned with multiple colorful beaded bracelets is lighting a traditional clay oil lamp (diya) with a small candle. The diya is placed on a vibrant rangoli made of colored rice in green, yellow, red, and white patterns. Several other lit diyas are also visible on the rangoli, creating a warm, festive atmosphere.

Join us for Half Moon Bay’s first-ever Diwali celebration — the Festival of Lights! This joyful, family-friendly event brings the community together to celebrate light, joy, and togetherness with festive music, colorful rangoli art for kids, a community lighting ceremony, and more.

Enjoy traditional Indian chai provided by Peacock Indian Cuisine (San Carlos), and children will receive a free diya (clay lamp) to take home as a keepsake.

This is the first Dawali celebration held in Downtown Half Moon Bay. If it’s your first Dawali, too, here’s what it’s all about: Diwali is one of the most important and widely celebrated holidays in Indian culture. Rooted in Hindu tradition, it symbolizes the triumph of light over darkness, good over evil, and knowledge over ignorance. Families celebrate by lighting oil lamps (diyas), decorating with vibrant colors and patterns, sharing sweets, and gathering for prayers and festivities. Though it has deep religious and cultural meaning, Diwali is also a joyful, inclusive celebration of hope, renewal, and community—welcoming to all who wish to take part.

✨ Free and open to all — come celebrate Diwali with us!
