M Stark Gallery presents a solo exhibition by Half Moon Bay artist Susan Carkeek: Dirt Plant Sky (acrylic and mixed media on canvas).

Hardy backyard flowers, fungi, plants, and trees thrive in their intricately layered and surprisingly multi-colored topsoil. Shown as a cross-section, Carkeek’s work is focused on the most recent layer of dirt– ours– recently laid down during the Anthropocene Era, the current period of time during which human activities have impacted the environment enough to constitute a distinct geological change.
Carkeek received her BA in art with honors from the University of Montana, Missoula. She lives and works in Half Moon Bay, California.
