Nuance Fine Art

Nuance Fine Art is a vibrant studio and gallery located in Downtown Half Moon Bay. This artistic hub is the brainchild of two classically trained painters, Joseph Altwer and Aina Clotas. Both artists are dedicated to the tradition of representational art, capturing the beauty of the world around them in rich, lifelike detail. The studio not only serves as a space where these talented individuals paint and exhibit their work but also as a learning center where they offer art classes, workshops, and drop-in model sessions for adults. Visitors are encouraged to make appointments, as the artists may be off-site, painting en plein air or conducting private classes.

Joseph Altwer brings his lifelong connection to the California coast into his artwork. He honed his skills at the Florence Academy of Art in Italy, graduating in 2009. Afterward, he worked alongside renowned painters, further developing his passion for landscape painting. His journey took him to Barcelona, Spain, where he spent five years teaching at the Barcelona Academy of Art and refining his craft in drawing and color. His ability to find beauty in everyday scenes, whether in a coastal landscape or the interplay of light on a simple object, defines his artistic vision.

Aina Clotas, born in northern Spain, brings a rich background in fine arts and traditional painting methods to Nuance Fine Art. Her education includes a Fine Arts degree from the University of Barcelona and advanced studies at the Barcelona Academy of Art. Aina’s work focuses on the human experience, drawing influence from literature and cinema. Her paintings have been exhibited internationally, from the United States to Estonia. Alongside her private commissions, Aina has been dedicated to teaching art, sharing her expertise at various art academies.

Together, Joseph and Aina offer a unique artistic experience at Nuance Fine Art, welcoming visitors to explore and engage with their creative world.
