Sweet 55

Ursula Schnyder, the Chief Chocolate Officer at Sweet 55, drew inspiration from her childhood in Switzerland, where her mother would treat her to a small piece of quality Swiss chocolate each day after school. Wanting to recreate this simple pleasure in the U.S., Ursula founded Sweet 55. Established in 2013, Sweet 55 in Half Moon Bay is dedicated to producing high-end, small-batch Swiss confections.

Sweet 55 works with sustainable Swiss vendors who pay above-average prices to their cacao suppliers, ensuring the highest quality ingredients. Once the chocolate reaches their shop, Swiss-trained chocolatiers create a constantly evolving array of confections. These delectable treats are perfect for any occasion, from personal enjoyment to family gatherings and corporate gifts.

The shop’s offerings include not just chocolates, but also Swiss cookies, pastries, cakes, tarts, and seasonal desserts. Additionally, they serve flavorful coffee drinks from Costa Rica and hot chocolate, making it a versatile destination for dessert lovers. Sweet 55 has garnered acclaim, winning the Good Food Awards in both 2018 and 2019.

Ursula’s passion for chocolate, rooted in her childhood memories from Berne, is evident in every product made at Sweet 55. The dedication to quality and tradition allows her to share a taste of Switzerland with the Half Moon Bay community. The on-site production and small-batch process ensure that each confection is fresh and made with care, fulfilling Ursula’s dream of crafting exceptional Swiss chocolates in California.
