Weekdays in Half Moon Bay

5 Terrific Reasons to Stay Midweek

The secret to a quick and easy getaway is a midweek stay in Half Moon Bay. Visiting during the week has a number of advantages that will take your visit from good to great.

A close destination for the greater Bay Area, Half Moon Bay is the perfect place for a night or two or even three. Here are five great reasons to visit during the week.

Take advantage of lower hotel rates by booking midweek. There’s also more availability of better rooms. For the best rates head directly to hotel websites to book accommodations. Last minute deals can be found at places such as Mill Rose Inn offering discounts for same day reservations on weekdays.

2. Dine Out

With limited seating, many restaurants get busy on the weekend. During the week, you’re more likely to find a prime spot for relaxed dining. By staying overnight, you can also pick up something special to bring to the beach or to your hotel.

A local’s favorite for tandoori dishes and dumplings called “momos” is Monsoon Himalayan Cuisine at 20 Stone Pine Road, a family owned restaurant serving specialties from Nepal. It’s currently open every day except Tuesday for take out and delivery and there are two tables set up outdoors.

Cafe Capistrano
Café Capistrano is a Yucatecan restaurant serving wonderful Mayan specialties as well as Mexican food and sandwiches.

Another terrific spot singled out by the Michelin guide is Cafe Capistrano at 523 Church Street. There’s a cozy outdoor patio where you can enjoy both Mexican and Mayan specialties from the Yucatan such as poc chuk, thinly sliced pork marinated in citrus and spices and sikil-pak a delicious pumpkin seed dip served with chips. It’s also a great spot for breakfast. It’s open every day for breakfast, lunch and dinner, except for Wednesdays. Call (650) 726-7699 for hours.

If you’re looking for something casual, possibly to take to the beach, pick up sandwiches from the deli counter at Cunha’s Country Store or Spangler’s Deli.

3. Explore the Coast

One of the pleasures of a midweek visit, is having room to explore without the crowds. Recharge your batteries and soak up the negative ions! Head out to the harbor to see the boats and fishing activity or to some of the famous beaches.
